‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy’: 19 Thoughts I Had While Watching the Trailer

There aren’t many pieces of media that have captured my attention quite like Bridget Jones’s Diary (both Helen Fielding’s 1996 novel and the 2001 film it inspired, though I am partial to the way Renée Zellweger pronounces “Chech-NYAAAAA” in the movie). So, naturally, I am beside myself with excitement to see the forthcoming adaptation of Mad About the Boy, Fielding’s fourth book in the Bridget Jones series, on February 13, 2025. Boyfriends of the world, get ready to be ditched on Valentine’s Eve so your girlfriends can go to the movies with their friends!

Watch the new trailer for Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy for yourself, then find all the thoughts I had while viewing it—no, like, literally all of them—below:

  1. Is this Renée’s voiceove?
  2. Mark Darcy is back! And graying sexily, as Colin Firth is wont to do!
  3. “I like you very much, just as you are.” Tears, instantly, from hearing this in Mark’s gruff yet somehow mellifluous British accent.
  4. Oh, he’s dead?
  5. Damn, dude.
  6. Bridget Jones is now old enough to be mistaken for a grandmother at her kids’ primary school?
  7. Sorry to be a narcissist, but what does this mean for me and my fleeting youth?
  8. DANIEL CLEAVER!
  9. Oh, Bridge, get off Tinder. I think Feeld would be more your speed (or Raya, if you can scam a subscription).
  10. There will never be a shortage of hot, young men to date nervous divorcees in rom-coms, it seems.
  11. Okay, how old is she supposed to be, exactly? Because if she’s in her 40s, 29 seems fine.
  12. Oh God, and Bridget’s sweet dad is in the hospital?
  13. The iconic dancing-on-my-own pajamas are back, just in time for the holidays.
  14. At one point, it was my life’s ambition to own a pair of these exact pajamas, if I’m recalling correctly.
  15. In fact, I should get on that.
  16. Daniel Cleaver would have a shiny, expensive red car in his 50s (or 60s, or 70s), because a) Hugh Grant barely ages and b) I still can’t tell how much time is supposed to have passed in the Bridgetverse.
  17. Seriously, is it legal for Grant to look this good?
  18. Or Chiwetel Ojiofor, for that matter?
  19. I’m glad they dropped this trailer so early, because now I have three months to figure out how to tell my partner that we’ll be enjoying a romantic matinee screening of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy on Valentine’s Day.
